Are you looking for a rewarding way to serve your community and grow as a person? Both Upper Milford Western District Fire Company #19 in Zionsville and Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz #28 are always looking for dedicated individuals to join their teams. Whether you have firefighting experience or are completely new, both departments welcome volunteers who are eager to learn and make a difference.
If you’re 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license, and want to be part of something meaningful, we’ll provide all the training you need — from operating Rescue Engine 19 in Zionsville to running Engine 28 on the turnpike in Vera Cruz. Becoming a firefighter isn’t just about answering emergency calls; it’s about building confidence, developing valuable skills like teamwork, leadership, and crisis response, and forming lifelong bonds with your fellow volunteers.
Whether you’re helping knock down a structure fire along Chestnut Street in Station 19’s district or rescuing a driver after a crash on Vera Cruz Road in Station 28’s coverage area, your service makes a real impact. Step up, stand out, and make a difference — your community needs you!
Becoming Fire Police
Looking for a unique and meaningful way to serve your community? Consider joining the Fire Police at either Upper Milford Western District Station 19 or Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz Station 28. Fire police play a vital role in keeping emergency scenes safe by directing traffic, securing accident sites, and supporting firefighters and EMS crews during critical incidents.
No prior experience is needed — if you’re 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to help, we’ll provide the training and gear you need. Whether you’re controlling traffic on Route 100 during a structure fire in Station 19’s district or securing an accident scene along Vera Cruz Road in Station 28’s area, your presence keeps responders and the public safe.

Join the administrative team at either Upper Milford Western District Station 19 or Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz Station 28. We’re looking for organized, motivated individuals to assist with essential tasks like record keeping, event planning, fundraising, grant writing, and communications.
No emergency training is required — just a willingness to lend your time and skills to a great cause. Whether it’s helping coordinate Station 19’s annual community events in Zionsville or supporting Station 28’s fundraising efforts in Vera Cruz, your work will directly strengthen the departments’ ability to serve.
If you’re 18 or older and want to make a difference in your community, this is a rewarding way to do it. You’ll gain valuable experience in administration, organization, and teamwork while supporting the mission of our firefighters and fire police. Help At Events
Love being involved in the community and meeting new people? Join the event volunteer team at either Upper Milford Western District Station 19 or Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz Station 28. Both departments host and participate in a variety of community events, fundraisers, and public outreach activities and we’re always looking for friendly, enthusiastic individuals to help make them a success.
Whether it’s setting up tables for Station 19’s annual chicken barbecue in Zionsville, drawing tickets at Station 28’s $5 drawing, or assisting with family-friendly fire prevention programs, your support makes a big difference.

Junior Firefighter
Ready to start your fire service journey? Both Upper Milford Western District Station 19 and Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz Station 28 offer Junior Firefighter Programs for motivated individuals starting at age 16. As a junior member, you’ll train alongside experienced firefighters, learning essential skills in fire suppression, rescue, and equipment use, while assisting at emergency scenes in support roles. You’ll also take part in community events, safety demonstrations, and fundraisers, gaining hands-on experience and building teamwork, leadership, and responsibility.
No prior experience is required — just a willingness to learn, follow safety rules, and commit to training. This structured program prepares you for full membership at age 18, giving you real-world skills and the chance to make a difference in your community.
